Book of Warriors

Book of Warriors

Once a much sought after status symbol in China, Warrior sneakers are now associated with deprivation as the elderly and poor working classes sport this previously highly regarded footwear whilst labouring at construction sites and pulling rickshaws. On a trip two years ago to China, Helsinki based graphic designer Shumeng Ye saw a cleaning lady at an airport wearing the sneakers, unknown at the time to her, and set about finding out as much information as she could regarding this enchanting brand. The result of Shumeng Ye’s discovery and her subsequent quest to learn more is this stunning book of photograpy she has produced which features the unique story of a forgotten brand.

Some short posts about some other cool things that we have seen and loved on the internet lately;

  • Magic Pills Earrings

    Magic Pills EarringsRather intriguing are these pills-come-earrings from graphic designer Ryan Chapman. Seemingly fashioned from actual tablets (we won't ask how you get the prescriptions Ryan), the earrings are packaged with a stylish medical label instructing you to apply a single dose to each ear. The homemade jewelery is about as unique as you could possibly get. Not coming to an Argos near you soon.......

  • The End

    The End"This is the end. Beautiful friend. This is the end. My only friend, the end." Well, no post titled 'The End' could be without a nod to the legend that is Jim Morrison. This is infact nothing at all to do with The Doors but merely a rather fun Flickr collection of closing credits from films that feature the seemingly long lost cinematic art of stating the bleeding obvious, 'The End'.

  • Haniboi Key of Rock

    Guitar KeyIt's so true that you don't know what you need until someone makes it, who'd have thought that we would be so lusting over a house key? Part of a fun collection of design goodness from rock fans, Haniboi, who have a new online shop promoting their items which include this along with other cool heavy metal cum design genius such as their 'Rock' canvas bag and 'Double bass drum tee'.

  • I Feel.......

    I Feel LondonFeeling naughty and in New York? Sophisticated in Toronto, or maybe just Hungover in London? Poke London's, Andy Whitlock has developed an interesting new concept in travel guides. I Feel London/Toronto/New York is a Google Maps mashup which allows you to select a mood and a city, the clever internet gubbins in the background does some number crunching and your presented with a map jam packed with places and things to do in said city. We could be bitter about having this idea a few years ago, or we could just be happy for Andy, who we're sure will develop this into a stomping world-beater of a website within a few years, watch this space.

  • Ceramic Noodle Cup

    Ceramic Noodle CupWe're now seriously beginning to question our own credibility, first we bring you a cheesy viral campaign and now we're talking about Pot Noodles. Rest assured however that we are not for one minute condoning the consumption of said fast food snack, but if you want to bring a bit of retro cheekiness into your life then your homemade stir-fry could be given an injection of fun by being eaten from these playful Ceramic Noodle Cups.

  • Yearbook Yourself

    Yearbook YourselfWe're not usually one for gimmickry and actually for that matter, frivolousness of any kind, we like to give off that air of aloofness we've been working so hard on, but when the results are as amusing as they are on this American shopping centre viral then our austere exterior just has to crack, especially when you throw in a picture of your dog. Enjoy.

  • Pimp My Logo

    Pimp My LogoThe aim of Tom Hemeryk of VisualArt.be and 'Pimp My Logo' is simply to animate 100 logos which have been submitted by various companies around the world. Quite why he has imposed this enormous task upon himself is lost on us but the skill with which he is executing said task is certainly not. The really impressive thing is that even 63 logos in he still finds the originality to try new ideas and execute them perfectly. For anybody with any more than a passing interest in design and motion graphics this is a must.
